Itinerary

The Zelaya alley: pictures of Carlos Gardel are painted on the walls of this tiny road, all created by the renowned painter Marino Santamarina. Carlos Gardel himself wrote some of his best-known songs in this street, such as Golondrinas, and Melodía de arrabal, whose lyrics can be seen on the alley walls.

Abasto District: have a look at this legendary area. its origins and its roots in tango. Some well-known tango musicians, including Carlos Gardel, Aníbal Troilo, and Osvaldo Pugliese, resided in the Abasto district. You’ll travel to “El Progreso”, the historic bar. There, Carlos Gardel performed his debut Tango. You can snap a photo with his contentious memorial, while walking into the Carlos Gardel Passage.

Museum of Carlos Gardel: the famous singer spent his final years at this house, his last home. Here you can discover samples of Gardel’s art, pictures and personal belongings, together with movie screenings and live music shows offered by the museum on a regular agenda.

Paseo del fileteado: the “Filete porteño” had its origins in Buenos Aires as a decorative painting, brought mainly from Italy and also from Germany and France. This curious desing had a connection to Tango culture from the start.

The Tango World Museum: a historic site with a range of tango-related materials, items and images that document the tango development across the time.

Tortoni Café: this is the oldest café in Argentina, established in 1858 and one of the most iconic cafés in the tango history.

The Confitería “La Ideal”: enter a famous café bistro, a place where the major Tango figures used to meet.
